A few things I’ve learned the hard way you might find useful.

Leadership Tomorrow

Do you ever stop and think about the big problems in the world?
It’s true, if you have small problems, it’s hard to step back and think about the big ones.  If you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, it’s difficult to care about social reform.  Or the war in Europe.  Or rising sea levels because of global warming.
That is part of the privilege of living in a first world country, where most of your needs are taken care of, and even if you are at the bottom of society, you’re still above most of the rest of the world.
Right now we are facing some problems.
Some giant social problems, and some giant pending economic problems.
Do we have the right leadership in place?  Or more importantly, even if we have the right leadership in place, do they have the tools and abilities to enact the required change to stop the bleeding.
To make it right, what was wrong.
I understand why all these government and social assistance programs were enacted.  I understand why all the things that were done, were done in a time of crisis.
The one part that is missing, is we have to declare one, or another crisis over, and we need a strong leader to get us through the next little while.
Someone is getting handed a giant bag of crap, and none of the available options for our leadership are good ones.
Our system is such that vanilla candidates are the ones that rise to the top.
Special interest groups get the people they want elected, elected, and the needs of the masses go underserved.
I hear people complaining every day, from both sides of an issue.  The problem is, they both usually have a good point.  I can, as I’m sure you can, relate to both sides.
Every generation complains about the giant bag of crap the previous one hands to them.  While there is some truth to that, it’s up to us to stop that flow, and reverse it.
It’s not perfect, and I couldn’t design a better system, so it is what it is.  I just hope someone gets in there and fixes things before it’s too late.
