Smart vs Dumb
I am grateful for the learning some of the habits of the great ones. The people who make a difference. The people who are legends, and who make the extra effort.
What I’ve come to realize is in certain cases dumb people have an advantage over smart people.
‘How can that be?’ you’re probably asking yourself.
They do the simple thing, the direct thing, the one thing that needs to be done and they do it over and over again.
Relentless, driven, and focused.
If they find something that works, they don’t mind doing the same the over again, because it works.
Whereas smart people they are ALWAYS looking for a better, faster way.
Smart people are always looking for a shortcut, and try this and try that. In some cases, if they just kept moving forward, if they just kept their eyes and process on the next milestone, they would get much farther ahead. This is because not only are they relentless, they are smart too.
The interesting thing is when I got my concussion. I was dumb.
Really, really dumb. No ego about if I’m actually smart or not (I know tons of people WAY smarter), no self deprecating comments, this is reality. Because of a massive blow to the head, my brain didn’t function and I was overwhelmed much of the time.
I was dumb, and it was all I could do to get through the day.
Having the experience of dumb, I’m grateful to have recovered, and with that, having the realization I’d much rather be smart, and yet utilize the relentlessness of dumb.
I’d much rather be able to look at the options, and change when I need to change. Do the things that must be done, and hire those focused people to get done what I need to get done, while I look for the next thing because the one truth is nothing ever stays the same.
So by being smart about being dumb, you get the best of both worlds.
Do what works. Again. And again. And again.
You’ll be better off for it.
