The Journey of 1000 Miles

The person I admire most is the person who does. The person who is making progress. The person who is moving forward step by step.

The old saying, a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. That is true in all things.

You can’t get to where you want to go, unless you start. Then, once you start, you simply have to take one more step in the right direction.

Don’t think about the 999th mile, just take the next right step. And the next one, and the next one. Concentrate on where you are putting your feet, and staying on the path.

Eventually, you will have gone the first mile. Pause for a moment. Look back and marvel at how far you’ve come.

Then, once you have brought forth the learnings of that first mile, turn your back to the past, focus on the future, and take more steps forward, and more.

You will come across obstacles in your path. You will climb the hills, swim the rivers, and cross the valleys.

Then, every now and again, look back.

Pause and marvel again at how much you’ve grown, how far you’ve come, and yet realize there is still a long way to go.

So set your shoulders against the headwinds, and carry on. Be confident in the knowledge you are making progress.

When one day, finally, you get to the goal you originally set for yourself, you will be a different person, with more experience, and new goals.

Keep moving forward from there and make the progress you know you can. What you see from here, looks a lot different than what you could see from there, and a change in perspective is sometimes all you need.

Whatever you do, keep moving forward, but be grateful for where you’ve been.
