A few things I’ve learned the hard way you might find useful.

so much average

Think about all the moments when you get to make a choice to stop making excuses, and start taking action.
Excuses are easy.  Action is hard.
And what really matters is putting a number down on paper, and a date in the calendar when you will have to be held accountable.
Whether that is accountable for performance on the field, in the classroom, or in the boardroom, having a date will make you more disciplined.
When I signed up to run the Toronto Marathon, I knew it was coming.  I knew I had to train.  I knew that if I was going to have the mental toughness, and fortitude to make it happen, I needed to run.  To put in the miles.
Would I have gotten up at 5 AM and run in the dark day after day, week after week, month after month if I didn’t have that deadline?  I doubt it.
I pride myself on being disciplined now, but even I fall prey to the comfortable bed.  The cozy couch.  The chocolate cake.  That is so easy.  So easy to skip the workout.  So easy to stay in bed.  So easy to not put in the work, go through the pain, and just coast on through.
That’s what most people do.  And you’ll never know their names.  What will you be remembered for?  Taking the lazy path?  The easy path?  The well-trodden path?
Or for forging your own path?
You have to make a choice to be the exception, and the best part about that is there is so much average out there.
So many people sitting on the couch binging Netflix, that you can dominate them.
You can do whatever you want with your life if you just make the choice to do what you know you should do, and then simply doing it.
