addicted to the process
Those who win, are addicted to the process. Not the outcome. The outcome will take care of itself, if you do the process well.
When I think about what process needs to happen, to win at being a knowledge worker, is you have to consume knowledge. You have to learn. You have to pay attention to where the trends are going, what is coming, and how to best prepare yourself to be in the best position possible given what’s coming.
Just like an athlete needs to put in the reps, I need to put in the reading. The listening. The coalating, the design of steps, and the moving forward.
What I get paid for is my brain.
The limitations of where I am today, my brain.
The potential of where I will be tomorrow, my brain.
What influences my brain, my beliefs. How do I train my beliefs? I learn.
Some of what I know today will be disproven tomorrow. There will be a new reality we are all in and I have to be flexible enough to adapt and change.
There will be new moments we have to face that we can’t even imagine.
Part of this preparation is choosing who to listen too. Choosing what to put into my brain, and evaluating that information from a different perspective.
Continually expanding my perspective, and learning things that I have no use for today, but will make all the difference for me in the future.
That’s what being addicted to the process is all about.
