the simple path
I am grateful for the smart people, who dumb things down for the rest of us. Who bring evidence, do the research, discover the findings, and use a logical process that we can take and apply in our lives, to become better people.
There are people on the cutting edge who lead the way, who are sometimes wrong, but who always have a different opinion of what is happening than most. It’s the differences that matter in most cases.
The other thing that matters is what’s been proven over time.
The stoic principles for example. They have been proven, and they are time tested. They are simple, so discovering and applying them isn’t hard, or confusing, or complicated, so most people disregard them.
However, sometimes, most of the time in fact, simple is better.
That is the amazing thing about life.
Simple is often better, and this can make all the difference in the world. It’s truly amazing how much you can do, by taking the simple path.
I have a tendency to take the complicated path. Someone tells me, this is the simple path. Just do this. And I find myself questioning their comments.
They are un-substantiated in my mind, and even if they are an expert, I tell myself that they don’t know my situation, so how could they know what I need to do?
So I go down the rabbit hole, proving for myself that I have to discover it, figure it out, then finally come back and understand the solution that I was told in the first place. Months later, if at all.
Often, the initial problem has resolved itself, or become so big, I’ve had to do something about it in the interim, when I could have simply done what was suggested at the beginning.
I am resolving to trying what people suggest first, just implementing, and then figuring out the reasons after the fact.
If there is a process, or system, and there is someone speaking to me from the future about this, who’s been there done that, and what they do has worked, I’m just going to try it.
Just try it.
