shake the earth
You can be a leader anywhere. With anyone. In every situation. At any age.
You don’t have to be all things to all people. But you do have to be something to some people. And if that thing you choose to be is a leader, then act that way. Be that way. Become the leader you want to be.
The most recent thinking on leadership is that you take care of your people, and your people will take care of your customers, and your customers will take care of you.
To truly do this, you have to have clarity of vision, certainty of intent, the power of values, and the discipline of action.
You must know where you are, and where you are going.
You must behave in ways that line up with your core values, and resonate with others.
And you must do something about it.
When you get all these things aligned, taking care of your people, knowing where you’re going, and moving in that direction in a thoughtful way, you will get far. Not by yourself, but with others, you will get even farther.
Derek Sivers observed and explained it well. The first followers are the most important, and the way you treat them, so they can teach others, makes all the difference between one lone guy dancing by himself, and a movement of people shaking the earth with each beat of the drum.
